Mehves Hanım Mansion, which has a registered cultural character of work with the status of a private property, is being used as a residence by its owners today.
This three storied mansion, built on approx. 600 m2 area, has a two level garden where there are a pool and a “selamlık” lodge in the upper part and a fountain is located in the lower part of the garden.

The mansion has two entries from Mescit Street. One of these is the front door which provides direct entry to the house and the other one is the garden door. You can enter to the house through the garden with the help of two separate doors. The door of the lower part of the garden provides entry to the ground floor while the door of the upper part provides entry to the middle floor.

There is a kitchen, a dining salon, a tea salon and a rest-room at the ground floor which is partly recessed to the ground. This entirely stone bonded floor is cool in summer and warm in winter time. Ascending to the middle floor from this floor is through a half stone and a half timber made stairs.

At the “Baghdadian” styled timber middle floor, there are three rooms, one pantry, one bathroom with toilet and corridors which provides connection to the garden, street, upstairs and downstairs. Besides, at this floor there is a revolving cabinet used for transferring the meals between the room where the cauldron stove stands and which was used as a kitchen in the past, and the guest dining room. At the exit from the middle floor to the garden there is a wooden veranda. Each section of this floor is arranged as a distinct place.

You can go up with the help of timber stairs from the middle floor to the upper. This extraordinary stairs, after opening into the hall at the upper floor, rises six more steps at each sides and meets here again. At this meeting point higher than the flor, was formed an area suitable to sit, rest, chat and watch the street.

The third floor is also “Baghdadian” styled and timber made and is the most imposing place of this house, as in all the traditional Turkish houses. Other than the stairs section, there are a sofa, an ”eyvan”, 5 different rooms and a bathroom with toilet at this floor. The ceiling height of the sofa is higher than the rooms and the timber ceiling is ornamented in central design style. Also the timber ceilings of the room known to be used as the parent’s bedroom and the room supposed to be used as a guest bedroom are also ornamented in central design style. The timber ceilings of the other rooms are more plain.

The number of the rooms at the third floor are more than estimated at the first sight.
The richly placement of so many rooms with different features and appearances in this area is amazing. One of the two bride’s rooms which does not see the street and which has a restricted view, is for the new bride. The new bride could only move to the other bride’s room where the street is visible, after she reached to a certain maturity. The last room of the third floor is for the’’ servant girl’’ (brought up as a member of the household). Although this is a small room, it is very cute and has a spacious view.

In some rooms there are areas inside a timber closet called “yunmalık” mostly used for ritual ablution, which reminds of todays shower cabins.

The extending bay windows of the rooms provide an all over view of the street for the resident.

There is a nettle tree, a date palm, a linden tree, a hazelnut tree and a walnut tree in the mansion’s garden. The large size dressed toilet stones which used to be in the toilet rooms before the restoration, are being displayed in the garden today.

The bay windows at the Mescit Street side of the Mehveş Hanım Mansion has a different architectural structure than those of the other traditional Turkish houses. There are water cups for birds at these bay windows. Also the window architecture of the mansion has different features than the others. The foreign architects are indicating that at the design of the interiors a style which idealizes the air flow has been chosen.
